Six Days of Gent set for thrilling finale
The Deceuninck – Quick-Step Team riders are second in the ranking after another action-packed night.
Iljo Keisse and Elia Viviani went into the penultimate evening of competition sitting in first place, but knowing a fierce task lied ahead as the margins in the standings were slender and three other teams were still in with a shot at winning the 78th edition of Six Days of Gent.
Ten events were scheduled Saturday evening, and the Deceuninck – Quick-Step Team overnight leaders came out of them with a total of five podiums, including two wins, brought by Elia in the supersprint, respectively Iljo in the second Derny race, decided in the closing meters. Once again, it all came down to the final Madison race, where despite a resolute display, our duo finished outside the podium and moved down to second place in the general classification.
Three points separate the former leaders of the team topping the standings at the moment, meaning anything is possible on Sunday afternoon, when the curtain will come down over the Six Days of Gent, after what should be nine intense and spectacular races that will keep the fans in the Kuipke on the edge of their seats.
1. Robbe Ghys – Kenny De Ketele – 304 points
2. Iljo Keisse – Elia Viviani – 301 points
3. Tosh Van der Sande – Jasper De Buyst – 283 points (+1 lap)
